Team 2 Site Design Considerations:
GREMP Web-quarium

This is the GREMP Web-quarium (named for Glorious, Rita, Evelyn, Melissa, and Paul, the web development team!) The GREMP Web-quarium is a web-based aquarium for kids ages 3 to 8 years of age. It’s expected some will have skills to navigate the web site without help, while others will have assistance from Mom, Dad, Teacher, Grandparent, or an older brother or sister.

Web-quarium features straightforward basic information about 5 ocean or water-dwelling animals: Otters, Penguins, Dolphins, Angel Fish, and Harp Seals. From both images and text, kids learn what the animals look like, what they eat, where and for how long they live. Maps show where on the planet each animal lives. Kids also get to take a quiz that features funny feedback that rewards correct answers. Quiz questions come from the reading on the web page.

The GREMP Web-quarium features button style navigation on both the home page and on each content page, relying on the fun visual impact of the picture buttons for moving between the 5 critter pages. The site was designed with colors and tables to organize the text and images. The brightly-colored fish banner at the top of each content page was created by cropping the image on the Home page, thus linking the pages together visually. In general, the elements placed “below the fold” on the home page and the content pages, are that which we hope the visitor won't mind scrolling down for.

The menu-navigation is used for "Home", "Site Map", “About Us”, "Site Design Considerations", and “Credits”, mostly the sort of web site elements that 3-8 year olds won’t be interested in, but perhaps their parents or teachers might be.

The “Home” web page uses bright tropical colors to greet visitors, and big fun buttons with pictures of the animals take young or young-at-heart visitors to each web page. The “About Us” web page introduces the Web Team members, and describes the part or parts of the web site development project that each was responsible to create. The “Site Map” gives a visual representation of the intended navigation of the site. The “Credits” web page lists the hypertext links to sources of the various images and factual information for each part of the site.

We hope you enjoy the GREMP Web-quarium!
